Namely, his book FOEW&OMBWHNW, which contains one of my favorite of his works, “Moments in the Lives of Great Women,” along with other lovely poems (some included on this LP). This recording is of Dick himself reading his own poetry. artist books both from students from the Otis Book Arts Minor, and from the large Artists Books Collection in the Library. Listen on Apple Podcasts JAN 7, Author: Otis College of Art And Design.

The definitive resource of Artists' Books in South Africa. The bibliographic data which accompany the following images are from the database of the Jack Ginsberg Collection and have been gleaned from the title, colophon or justification of the books themselves. Among Dick Higgins' numerous books are A Book About Love & War & Death, Poems Plain & Fancy, foew&ombwhnw, Pattern Poetry: Guide to an Unkown Literature, Horizons: The Poetics and Theory of Intermedia, A Dialectic of Centuries, and Modernism Since Postmodernism.

Many of the Something Else Press books look conventional, with sewn bindings and hardcovers, but further investigation shows how far from conventional books they are; for example, Dick Higgins’ foew&ombwhnw, published in , looks like the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, with nubby black cover, red-edged tissue pages, and a ribbon marker. This book is a gorgeous curiosity of book as art object by Dick Higgins, one of the real poets of the Fluxus conceptual art movement.

I Foew&ombwhnw book the fortune of spending an afternoon with Dick Higgins in Chicago once through some very linked-in alliances, in fact my friend Philip and I were assigned to keep Higgins company while our other friend had to go to a meeting, and spent an hour or so /5.

The foreword of this book proclaims that it is “a grammar of the mind and a phenomenology of love and a science of the arts as seen by a stalker of the wild mushroom”. The book is bound in the manner of a bible, with a black leatherette cover with rounded corners, thin leaf pages, and a black ribbon.

Printed in two-column pages making up four-column spreads, with four running narratives. Each of the four Foew&ombwhnw book contains a separate collection of essays, poetry, photographs, and illustrations. Higgins’ foew&ombwhnw (a collection disguised as a prayer book) contains his important essay, “Intermedia,” in which he describes artworks which “fall between media,” arguing that the social conditions of the time (early to mids) no longer allowed for a “compartmentalized approach” to either art or life.

This term was originally coined by Dick Higgins in his book foew&ombwhnw (), Something Else Press. See Drucker &ß II. The Livre d’artiste (literally Book of the Artist or Artist’s Book) is usually considered to be a limited edition fine press book which rose to prominence towards the end of the 19th century.

Something Else Press is credited with being among the first publishers of an entirely new genre: integral artworks designed for publication, now widely known as "artists' books." I called Printed Matter to inquire about the book, its seemingly been unsold there for half a century, and its low price. Quotes "The important first publication of texts by LeWitt, Graham and Weiner on conceptual art.
